I want to post little tidbits of my life in hopes that my trials, tribulations, relationships, weird phobias, white-knuckled fears, humulations, and down right degradations can inspire other women.  I invite you to comment, advise and participate. My goal is to provide this forum to help organize a community group of women to help each other be the best people we can be.

My name is Shana Olive and I came to the United States when I was seven, in 1977. For those of you who don't remember, that was the year Elvis died. So Elvis dies and three months later, I arrive. When I say arrive, I mean my mother, brother and I moved to a very small town in Texas. So small I still don't think it's on a map yet. Where I'm from we speak Caribbean Creole. Which technically is English. However, I couldn't speak "American" English. And as you can imagine, that was not very well-received with the hillbilly folk in the town. So I struggled with shyness and the constant need to please other people. I tried incredibly hard to assimilate, to be like everybody else. Until I realized that no matter how hard I tried, I would never be accepted by some people. And then it hit me, why do I want to be like people I don't even like? I embraced my individuality and have never looked back!
